During Evensong on 19 January, the Revd Dr Anthony Moore was instituted and licensed by the Bishop as Canon Chancellor of Lichfield Cathedral and later installed by the Dean.
Anthony, who originally comes from Kent, was Dean of Chapel, Fellow and Chaplain of St Catharine’s College Cambridge prior to this appointment.
Anthony has a degree in Music from Exeter University, where he was both an Organ Scholar and Senior Choral Scholar. He prepared for the priesthood at the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield, where he gained B.A. and M.A. degrees from Leeds University in Theology. He specialised in Biblical Theology and his Doctorate (also from Leeds) was awarded in 2010 on ‘The Theme of Creation in the Fourth Gospel’.
Ordained in 1999 in the Blackburn Diocese, he served as Curate in the Parish of Christ Church Carnforth. He returned to Mirfield for a year to become Research Fellow and pastoral Tutor before becoming, in 2004, Senior Curate of St Paul’s Knightsbridge (a parish which spans extremes in wealth and poverty). Throughout this time he also served as Chaplain of the Royal Academy of Music.
In Cambridge, Anthony provided pastoral care and support for the staff and student body. He taught New Testament studies to undergraduates, oversaw college worship and worked with people of other faiths. He was a tutor for ordained and lay ministers in the Ely Diocese and has been in demand as a guest lecturer / speaker at Diocesan conferences and training events in Winchester, London and St Edmundsbury & Ipswich.
Besides his musical interests, Anthony has qualified as a Royal Yachting Association Day Skipper.
Throughout his ministry Anthony has developed his knowledge and expertise of working with children and young people. He has a keen sense of the missionary opportunities a Cathedral is able to develop through its life and worship, its welcome and accessibility. Anthony has had a long-held conviction that he would be happy and fulfilled in cathedral ministry and relishes the opportunities presented by his new role.
