A masterpiece of faith and art: “Threads through the Bible” comes to Liverpool Cathedral

Liverpool Cathedral has announced the debut of Threads Through the Bible by textile artist, Jacqui Parkinson.

Liverpool Cathedral - Threads through the Bible

This carefully stitched artwork took almost a decade to craft by hand and it tells the story of God’s enduring love, the trials of humanity, and the triumphs of faith from Creation to Revelation in 25 million stitches.

It is the first time this powerful display has been seen in all its glory, weaving together the timeless teachings of the Bible into one visual experience.

Threads Through the Bible combines three of Jacqui’s exhibitions: ‘Threads through Creation’, ‘Threads through the Cross’ and ‘Threads through Revelation’ making 44 silk panels, stretching 80 meters in length and almost 30 metres in height – with more than 25 million stitches!

The Dean, the Very Revd Dr Sue Jones, said:

“It is wonderful to welcome the exhibition Threads Through the Bible to Liverpool Cathedral.

Jacqui Parkinson creatively re-tells many of our Bible stories through textile, a very different medium to stained glass, which historically told Bible stories.

“Each panel tells a story of love, hope, redemption, and grace—a testament to the living Word of God and we look forward to seeing this magnificent display in our magnificent Cathedral and invite you to gaze upon the wonder of this work of art and the enduring story it tells.”
