This Holy Week Rochester Cathedral is celebrating women in scripture through music, poetry and art.
Women in Scripture at Rochester Cathedral
A new art exhibition by artist Silvia Dimitrova can be found in the Quire featuring paintings of seven women from the Old and New Testament: Sarah, Miriam, Ruth, Esther, Mary Magdalene, Lydia and Priscilla.
Canon Sue Brewer, of Rochester Cathedral, said the cathedral chose to incorporate the ‘Women in Scripture exhibition’ in Holy Week services “because of our desire to share the inspirational ministry of women”.
The programme is led by The Rt Revd Dr Graham Kings, Hon Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Ely and features Silvia’s paintings, original music by Dr Tristan Latchford and poems by Bishop Graham.
Throughout Holy Week different paintings will be used as inspiration for reflection and music.
“Sometimes, people who are not sure about God and the church respond to evocative paintings, poetry and music,” she added.
