A spokesperson for the cathedral said,

‘It’s a proud Portsmouth occasion to be singing live on BBC Radio 3.

‘Our patron saint, Thomas of Canterbury (Thomas Becket) was named Thomas because he was born on St Thomas’ day – so it is fitting for us to be singing live on BBC Radio 3 and we are very proud to do so on behalf of our city.’

The boys of the Cathedral Choir will be singing including Stanford in C Psalm 59 and the hymn, The Lord is my light and my salvation by Sir John Rutter for the programme, the longest running outside broadcast.
