A World Reimagined – Southwark Cathedral

23rd January 2026

Southwark Cathedral in a unique collaboration exploring themes of identity, belonging and global citizenship.

Southwark Cathedral has taken part in a new national creative learning initiative launched this year through a partnership between the Church of England and The World Reimagined which sees a collaboration with schools on the other side of the Atlantic.

This pioneering programme brings together art, education, literacy, and social justice, inviting schools across the country to explore themes of identity, belonging, and global citizenship through a bespoke cross-curricular scheme of work.

Throughout this academic term, students from across the Southwark Diocese are engaging in lessons in English, Geography, Art and more, designed to deepen their understanding of the world and their place within it.

A key highlight of the initiative will see each school work alongside a professional Artist Educator to design and paint a large globe sculpture that reflects their ideas and aspirations for a fairer, more connected world.

Ten globe sculptures created by pupils from St Bede’s (Redhill) and Boutcher C of E Primary School have gone on display in Southwark Cathedral.

These Globes are the result of Triangle of Unity, The World Reimagined’s  national learning programme developed in partnership with the Church of England and funded by the Church of England’s Racial Justice Unit Triennium Fund,

Triangle of Unity connects classrooms across the UK with peers in West Africa and the Caribbean, using creative learning to explore shared history and reimagine the Atlantic Triangle as a space of connection and hope.

The exhibition will conclude on Saturday 31 January 2026 with a special festival co-curated by Southwark Cathedral, celebrating the art, heritage, and culture of the Atlantic Triangle. This event will feature a rich programme of art, music, poetry, storytelling, puppetry, and more.

This year alone, 960 students have taken part in this project. The Globes will also be exhibited nationally at Bristol, Sheffield, and Bradford Cathedrals later this month too.
