Guildford Cathedral
Guildford Cathedral is a modern, beautiful cathedral with an amazing story. One of only two Anglican cathedrals to be built on entirely new sites since medieval times, building work was interrupted by the devastation and aftermath of the Second World War. And yet in an extraordinary demonstration of modern community spirit, it was consecrated by 1961 – uniquely funded through the generosity of more than 200,000 ordinary people, who ‘bought a brick’.
Come and see this majestic landmark in its memorable hill-top setting upon Stag Hill, close to the heart of Guildford; step inside and experience the special atmosphere of tranquillity, light and space; hear from our guides how this building came about against the odds and about the spirited people who made it possible; visit our delightful restaurant and gift shop; stay to listen to the magnificent Choral Evensong. Services are held daily and there are also special services throughout the year. All welcome.
