Bristol Quirentine

07th April 2020

A multi track performance from choristers at Bristol Cathedral.

Ancient Easter tradition upheld at Bristol Cathedral as choir come together in “quirentine” for Easter Day performance

It’s an unbroken Easter tradition that can trace its origin back to the reign of King Henry VIII – and social distancing and self isolation will not put paid to that.

This Easter Day, the choristers of Bristol Cathedral will uphold the ancient tradition of singing together when the whole choir – nearly 40 choristers, together with the back row – will be united – (albeit each from the comfort of their own homes) for a special celebratory multi-track performance of This Joyful Eastertide.

This 21st century solution is part of a package of worship and songs from “quirentine” offered by Bristol Cathedral and they sound awesome!

Watch and listen here:

Throughout Holy Week, the Cathedral is offering a number of services – many with additional musical content drawn from Cathedral Choir CDs, recordings made before the Cathedral was closed, and these special multitrack “quirentine” performances recorded during the lockdown.

Tim Popple, music administration at Bristol Cathedral said:

“Our Cathedral Choir pour their heart and soul into the music they provide for the praise and glory of God. While our choristers and adult singers are self-isolating, this multitrack project has enabled them to still sing together, to become part of something greater, and to remember why the Cathedral Choir exists, and why the Cathedral itself is here: to give thanks for the resurrection of Christ at Easter, and the love which God shows the world.

“Now more than ever that message is of vital importance,” he added.
