Angelic Women: the friendship of Jane Austen and Anne Lefroy

A special opportunity to view the original manuscript of Jane Austen’s poem, in her hand, written in memory of her close friend, Mrs Anne Lefroy.

As well as the original manuscript of Jane Austen’s poem, you’ll be able to see a number of unique and rare Jane Austen-related exhibits on show, including loans from Jane Austen’s House and Hampshire Records Office.

Before you leave don’t forget to visit Jane Austen’s grave and memorial. Jane Austen is buried in the north nave aisle of Winchester Cathedral and visitors travel from around the world, throughout the year, to pay their respects.

Visitors often leave letters and flowers next to Jane Austen’s brass memorial plaque, at the side of her grave. There are many candle stands around the cathedral, as well as quiet chapels, if you would like a quiet moment to sit and reflect.
