Britain’s Great Cathedrals Channel 5

Britain’s Great Cathedrals. A six part documentary series that looks at the architecture and tells the stories and characters behind six of Britain’s Cathedrals.

Called ‘Britain’s Great Cathedrals’, it is presented by actor, Tony Robinson, and will be broadcast on Channel 5 . The series will feature York Minster, and Canterbury, Salisbury, Durham, Liverpool and Winchester Cathedrals.

Channel 4 will also be featuring some of England’s cathedrals in another new series called Britain’s Most Historic towns.

Britain’s Great Cathedrals will take the viewer on a journey to look at the history and architecture, and learn a little about the characters who have made the cathedrals what they are today.

The series opens with York Minster which over the past 800 years has been a backdrop to some of the most dramatic events in British history. It houses more than half of all the world’s medieval glass and its succession of outspoken bishops have defied Nazis, married kings and queens, and more recently championed for equality when the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, the country’s first black diocesan bishop, consecrated the world’s first female bishop, Libby Lane, in 2014.
