Woodcarvers, flower arrangers, stonemasons, cleaners, librarians, conservationists, textile and soundscape artists and bell-ringers.
Exeter Cathedral celebrates its heritage and crafts
Everyone of them has a role to play to maintain and preserve our cathedrals for future generations.
And today (Wednesday) Exeter Cathedral is hosting a free Heritage Careers Fair showcasing over 20 different careers associated with the Cathedral and related heritage crafts.
Visitors are invited to discover more about the different teams that help keep a cathedral running from the clergy to the cleaners and everyone in between – including the unsung army of volunteers without whom the cathedral would be so much less.
There is an opportunity to meet the creative artists behind some of Exeter Cathedral’s community projects including the modern misericords project, the soundscape project, those working on the textiles project and the votive artists
Exeter Cathedral will also showcase its volunteers including The Cathedral Society of Ringers, Flower Arrangers and The Company of Tapisers.
The Heritage Careers Fair will also showcase the contractors who have been working hard on Exeter’s 2020s Development Appeal Project tosafeguard the cathedral’s heritage, reduce its environmental footprint to make a more resilient and sustainable organisation, and improve its welcome and accessibility.
