#WishYouWereHere – Summer in our Cathedrals – what will you discover?
All our cathedrals have exciting programmes for everyone throughout this summer – from headline exhibitions to family days and arts and crafts – and all are underpinned by the daily rhythm of prayer and worship.
Some of our cathedrals charge entry and there may be a fee at others for specific events, but all our cathedrals are free to enter for prayer, worship or to light a candle.
Do check on the cathedral’s individual website for up-to-date information before you travel.
And don’t forget to share your pictures and tag us #WishYouWereHere – our summer campaign this year.
Gloucester announces reopening of its tower
Gloucester Cathedral has announced the re-opening of its tower tours just in time for the summer holidays, with a new roof deck.
This vital upgrade ensures continued access to one of the city’s most breathtaking viewpoints and helps safeguard the historic fabric of Gloucester Cathedral for years to come.
Visitors with a head for heights can once again climb the 269 steps to enjoy panoramic views of Gloucester, the Severn Valley and even the Malvern Hills.
On the way up, visitors get to peek inside behind-the-scenes spaces of the Cathedral, including the ringing chamber and the bell chamber where they see ‘Great Peter’ – the only medieval bell of its size still in use in England.
Tours are led by expert guides who bring the experience to life.
Tower Tours are available to book online, with additional summer dates being released soon.
Tickets cost £12 for adults and £6 for children.
This essential project has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the Friends of Gloucester Cathedral, to whom the Cathedral is grateful.
Hazel Tanner, Visitor Welcome Manager at Gloucester Cathedral added:
‘We’re thrilled to reopen the Cathedral Tower for tours again just in time for the busy summer season.
‘It’s one of the most special places in Gloucester, offering breathtaking views of the beautiful city.’
