Megan Plowman – Liverpool Cathedral
28th January 2026
The finalists have just been announced in the 2026 Liverpool City Region Culture and Creativity Awards – and include our very own Megan Plowman from Liverpool Cathedral.
Megan is a finalist for the Inspirational Young Person Award in the region’s Culture & Creativity Awards.
This award celebrates the impact of a young person under the age of 25 who displays an innovative and inspiring approach to art, culture and/or creativity.
Megan joined the cathedral over four years ago whilst undertaking her degree in digital marketing alongside.
Over the last four years she has been instrumental in finding new ways for the cathedral to tell its story – really leaning into the rise in influencer marketing – as well as being part of the team on some big projects and campaigns including the Anish Kapoor exhibition, Luke Jerram’s Helios, the Liverpool Biennale and the launch of Bloomberg Connects – the first for a UK Cathedrals.
Oh … and she got a first!
Megan said,
‘I’m really proud to work in a city where culture and creativity are woven into everything and for an organisation that helps make these things accessible and free to all.
‘I’ve spent the last 4.5 years working at the cathedral, juggling some pretty full on projects and campaigns, helping to grow our visibility, and doing my degree alongside it all.
‘It’s such a fast-paced role that I’ve never really stopped to think about the impact of any of it.
‘To be honest, the last few months have been about finding my feet again after being quite burnt out from those first four years, so this has honestly come at a really needed moment.
‘That being said, this doesn’t feel like a “me” thing at all. I work with so many incredible people at the Cathedral, and this reflects the work of a whole community, and I’m extremely lucky to be part of it.’
The finalists were whittled down to 55 from over 500 nominations in 17 categories that celebrate excellence in film and tv, recognise talent in the digital, gaming and creative media sectors, innovation and community cohesion, Live Event of the Year Award and People’s Choice Award for Outstanding Contribution to Culture.
Councillor Mike Wharton, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Business, Investment and Trade, said:
“The Liverpool City Region is at the forefront of culture. We are an area brimming with creativity and these awards give us a chance to celebrate our own artists, innovators, community activists and businesses who are all using culture and creativity to make a difference within their own communities.
“From local grassroots projects to large scale events, it’s been an incredibly exciting year for culture in the Liverpool City Region, and competition has been tough. All our finalists are extremely successful to get this far, and I wish them the best of luck.”
The awards ceremony will be held at the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool in June.
