Organ Prom – Salisbury Cathedral – You choose the music
Salisbury Cathedral’s popular Organ Prom returns this summer – and there’s a public vote to choose the music.
The Organ Prom returns on Saturday 16 August and is set to be a jolly evening filled with a programme of popular music.
Sponsored by Batt Broadbent Solicitors, the Organ Prom is a relaxed informal evening, where the audience has an opportunity to wander around the beautiful Cathedral, enjoying a drink while listening to a mix of music, from organ classics to film music and popular songs – voted for by the public.
It’s a brilliant opportunity to hear popular music played on the mighty Father Willis organ, filling the Cathedral and a fundraising event to support the cathedral’s Choral Foundation.
In keeping with Salisbury Cathedral’s year-long theme of water, popular classics including Handel’s Water Music, Saint-Saëns The Swan and Singin’ in the Rain are on offer on the voting page.
Other popular classical hits will include Jupiter from Holst’s The Planets, Debussy’s Clair de Lune, Nimrod from Elgar’s Enigma Variations and Barber’s Adagio, as well as Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee and Walton’s Crown Imperial.
The organists will be David Halls, the Cathedral’s Director of Music, and John Challenger, Assistant Director of Music. The evening will be compered by former BBC presenter, Revd Canon Tim Daykin.
John Challenger said:
“The 2025 Organ Prom is always a highlight of the annual organ series. The buzz of the Cathedral filled with an enthusiastic audience, all sharing a mutual love for music in the beautiful surrounding of the Cathedral.
‘It’s just the best atmosphere. The music this year is sure to get people excited, and there might just be a few surprises sprinkled in.”
Voting is now open to choose the music that will be performed on the night and more information can be found here.
Continuing the music cheer, on Sunday 17 August from 1pm-4pm Swing Unlimited Big Band also makes its return to the Cathedral grounds.
Tickets for the Organ Prom are £12.50, with under 18s and students £5. Available now.
