17th January 2025
Peterborough Cathedral is all set to celebrate its famous inhabitant – Katherine of Aragon – at its annual Katherine of Aragon Festival.
Peterborough Cathedral Celebrates – Katherine of Aragon
This Tudor celebration of Henry VIII’s first Queen is a partnership between Peterborough Cathedral and the city’s Museum and Art Gallery and will start next Wednesday (22 January) concluding on the 29 January marking the date she was laid to rest in Peterborough Cathedral after her death in exile at Kimbolton Castle.
Thousands of visitors make the pilgrimage to her tomb in the cathedral every year, many lay pomegranates atop it, her personal symbol.
The Katharine of Aragon Festival 2025 programme includes:
- Historical talks and guided tours – including stories of Katharine’s life, her influence on Tudor England, and the personal trials she endured.
- Commemoration Service – with visiting dignitaries.
- Family activities – Interactive experiences for all ages, allowing families to step back in time to the Tudor period
- Grand Tudor banquet – A highlight of the festival is this immersive dining experience at Peterborough Cathedral, which invites guests to partake in a Tudor feast whilst enjoying lively performances from skilled players and merry minstrels.

Urgent Fundraiser
Peterborough Cathedral has just launched an urgent fundraising appeal to stabilize its finances and secure its future so it can continue its wide-ranging programme of events throughout the year.
In launching the appeal, the Dean of Peterborough, The Very Reverend Christopher Dalliston, said:
“This Cathedral has been at the heart of Peterborough and the diocese for nearly 1,400 years. It belongs to everyone in this city and beyond. We urgently need your support to keep its doors open and ensure it remains a place of inspiration and sanctuary for all.”
