Solace opens in Peterborough Cathedral

07th November 2025

Peterborough Cathedral will host Solace, a pair of glass wings symbolising freedom, fragility and strength, this month.

The glass sculpture supported on iron framework is by artist, Layne Rowe and features  more than 100 individually hot-sculpted glass feathers, each feather featuring fine white canework to evoke light and give the impression of the movement of wings.

Peterborough Cathedral will host Solace, a pair of glass wings symbolising freedom, fragility and strength, this month.

Originally created in 2020 for St Albans Abbey, Solace began as a response to the collective grief and loss experienced during the pandemic.

Since then, it has been exhibited at Ely Cathedral, The Chelsea Flower Show, The British Glass Biennale, Sheffield Cathedral, amongst others and most recently, it was displayed at Fenland Crematorium for Angel Day, where it provided a space for remembrance and reflection.

The sculpture will go on public  display in Peterborough Cathedral from Wednesday 5th November until Sunday 1st December 2025.
