There will be a special service of Evensong commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe in Durham Cathedral.

This special service is led by the Dean of Durham, the Very Revd Dr Philip Plyming and will be attended by HM Lord-Lieutenant Sue Snowdon and the Mayor of Durham Liz Brown, as well as the chiefs of all three services and cadets.
The service will include special prayers to mark the significant anniversary and to pray for peace today.
The service will be followed by bell-ringing as the Guild of Ringers, take part in the National Ring Out in Celebration event from 6.30pm.
The Ring Out event mirrors that same moment, on 8 May 1945, when bells rang out across Britain as the nation took to the streets in celebration of Victory in Europe Day.
From 9pm Durham Cathedral will also be lit up red in commemoration each evening from Tuesday 6 May to Thursday 8 May.
