VE Day 80th Anniversary – Lincoln Cathedral

Lighting up red, white and blue, commemorative worship, music, bunting and bellringing – all our cathedrals are getting ready to remember, reflect and give thanks to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for peace in our times.
VE DAY 80 – join us in a shared moment of celebration and remembrance.
On May 8, the 80th anniversary of VE Day, Lincoln will be following the national programme of celebrations and will start in Castle Square at 4.30pm. There will be entertainment from 1940s-style singers, and music from a DJ.
Visitors can browse military stalls, with representatives from the Royal British Legion and Royal Logistic Corp.
The Town Crier, Karen Crow, will be in attendance, along with the Civic Party and dignitaries.
A special Choral Evensong will take place at Lincoln Cathedral at 5.30pm, and the bells will ring out across the city at 6.30pm as part of the national Ring Out celebration event.
Following the special Evensong, the Cathedral will be open for the lighting of candles and quiet reflection from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
The Dean of Lincoln will read the Tribute before the beacon is lit at 9.30pm.
The Cathedral will also be lit in red, white and blue to mark the occasion.
And on Saturday 17 May, Lincoln Cathedral will host a special concert performed by the band of the Royal Air Force College and the Cathedral Choir to mark the VE Day 80
The programme will include music to pay tribute to the service and sacrifice made by all who served in and were affected by the Second World War.
