Where to watch the Royal Wedding

14th May 2018

Royal Wedding: Where will you watch it?

With less than a week to go to, the question now remains: where will you watch the Royal Wedding of HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Four of our Cathedrals are live streaming the event – Norwich, Peterborough, Salisbury and Winchester – while Bristol is hosting a Royal Wedding themed concert in the evening with music from both sides of the pond.

Winchester was named in this month’s Cosmopolitan Magazine as one of the top places to watch the wedding and has organised a day of family activities starting with the wedding ceremony on the big screen in its majestic Nave from 12 noon – 1.00pm, before the celebrations continue in the Outer Close until 5.00pm with entertainment for all the family. It is part of the Cathedral’s Thy Kingdom Come events. Find out more by clicking here.

Norwich– you can sing along to the hymns accompanied by the Cathedral organ during the live screening of the Royal Wedding in the nave of Norwich this Saturday. More here.

In Peterborough– there will be a “best dressed hat” competition when the Cathedral grounds will be transformed into an English Country Garden party with market stalls, raffle and of course, a big screen for the live coverage of the royal wedding.

The Cathedral café, The Becket Tea Rooms will have an outdoor marquee with champagne and refreshments on sale, or you can bring a picnic. The Dean, the Very Revd Christopher Daliston, will judge the best dressed hat competition at 2.30pm, with categories for both under 16s and 16 + age groups, and prizes for the winners. Visit the Peterborough Cathedral website here for more details.

Salisbury Cathedral has teamed up with BBC Wiltshire to host a free fun-filled all-day party in its grounds starting at 9am. There will be live music performances from local artists on the BBC Wiltshire stage, activities hosted by Salisbury Cathedral, Wiltshire Creative and Salisbury Museum, including a chance for children to write good luck messages to the Royal couple, crown making craft sessions, and CBBC activities.

The ceremony will be broadcast on a giant 50ft BBC screen in the Cathedral grounds.

Mary Sanders, Editor BBC Wiltshire, said:

“We are very much looking forward to celebrating the Royal Wedding with everyone in the wonderful city of Salisbury. We’d love people to join us in the grounds of the Cathedral to wish the Royal couple well and enjoy the stunning surroundings with friends and family. It’s been an extraordinary and difficult few months in Salisbury and this is a perfect chance to come together to celebrate and highlight everything that’s fabulous about where we live.”

Canon Edward Probert, Acting Dean of Salisbury, said: “This place comes into its own when it hosts events like this, allowing the community to come together to celebrate on the Cathedral lawns. It is something we love to see and an opportunity, after recent events, to look forward to the future with confidence as we celebrate the union of Prince Harry and Meghan.”

For more information about the big day, visit the BBC Wiltshire website here.

Blackburn Cathedral will be saying prayers and ringing the bells at 11am to mark the occasion.

At Bristol Cathedral, the Cathedral Choir will celebrate the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, with a concert. Called A Musical Marriage, it will feature songs from the Royal Wedding and Agnus Dei by Samuel Barber. It starts at 7.30pm and funds raised will support the Choir. More >

Saturday promises to be a brilliant day and the weather forecast is not bad either so now you have no excuses not to enjoy the day at some of our fantastic cathedrals.
