Worcester Cathedral – World Suicide Prevention Day

11th September 2025

Worcester Cathedral has installed a reflective space to mark World Suicide Prevention Day this week.

The safe space for reflection and support can be found in the Dean’s Chapel and invites visitors to take a moment for reflection for those we have lost and those who are struggling.

There is a prayer tree in place for hope and remembrance, and visitors are invited to write a message on one of the tags provided and add it to the branches.

There will also be leaflets and information signposting to help available for anyone who is, or who knows someone going through a difficult time, and a safe space to find a moment of peace.

The Dean of Worcester, the Very Revd Dr Stephen Edwards, said:

“This year the International Association for Suicide Prevention has set the global theme ‘Changing the Narrative on Suicide,’ with a clear and powerful call to action: ‘Start the Conversation.’

‘Our safe space for reflection and support is open for anyone to drop in and take a peaceful moment for themselves, ask for support or seek support services available to them.”

The space opened to the public yesterday and is open until 5pm on Wednesday 17 September.

Help is also available at the Cathedral, by asking to speak to a member of the clergy or the Cathedral’s Safeguarding Officer.
