Where Angels Tread – Lichfield Cathedral
23rd October 2024
Visitors are invited to walk ‘where angels tread’ in a new installation in Lichfield Cathedral
The installation is inspired by the angelic vision of St Chad, its patron saint.
Where Angels Tread – Lichfield Cathedral
The installation sees huge silk voiles suspended through the cathedral and invites visitors on a journey through the life of St Chad whose story was marked by visions of angels.
The installation will come to life on selected nights when the silk voile panels will be specially lit and enhanced with an angelic soundscape. There are information boards telling Chad’s story, and space for quiet reflection too.
Canon Gregory Platten of Lichfield Cathedral said:
“We’re really excited about welcoming visitors to experience this home-grown installation taking us on a journey in the footsteps of St Chad – the very person who put Lichfield on the map and made it the cathedral city it is today.
“Angels are fascinating, with rich spiritual significance; they ignite curiosity in so many people across the world.
Where Angels Tread is open during usual visiting hours until 3 November. Tickets for the Out of Hours Events are £5.50 for adults, £3.50 for children and are available from Lichfield Cathedral’s website here.
Some of the voiles will remain for Advent and Christmas.
