Blackburn Cathedral
Although Christians have worshipped here since 596 AD, the building and its collection of modern art offers a very contemporary experience to the visitor.
The spire above the Crossing is innovative, with its graceful line reaching pencil-like into the sky. Below the spire is the Corona by John Haywood which dominates the building spiritually.
We are fortunate to have a statue of The Virgin and Child by the Lake District artist, Josefina de Vasconcellos (1904 – 2005), although our most recent work consists of 15 life sized coloured panels, “The Journey” by Penny Warden ( 2005), depicting a modern statement of The Stations of the Cross. They speak to the multi-cultural community which is Blackburn and add appropriate colour to the white walls and delicate light of the interior.
