All our cathedrals are working hard to adhere to the latest advice and guidelines from the Government, Public Health and the Church of England to ensure everyone’s safety and to minimise the risk of spreading the Coronavirus.
Wakefield Cathedral creates local support group for COVID-19 virus
Wakefield Cathedral is using the social platform, Facebook to create a group of people who might help and support the vulnerable in their city and district through the Covid-19 virus.
This group has already seen over 300 people join since it was launched over the weekend and it is hoped it will become a place to share requests for help – shopping/dog walking/conversation – in the coming weeks and months.
The Canon Precentor at Wakefield Cathedral, the Revd Canon Leah Vasey Saunders said there had been a lot of anxious talk at church over the last week and she had discovered the Covid Mutual Aid group and realised there was no local group for Wakefield; so decided to set one up.
“I’ve been really heartened by the number of people signing up and offering to help or simply be there for their neighbours in their community,” she said.

There is a list of national groups on the website that cathedrals can join in with.
Wakefield Cathedral has also shared a booklet of prayer ideas created by a fellow priest in a neighbouring parish in the Diocese of Leeds for people to take home and use if they can’t get to church.
