Accessibility Statement
The Association of English Cathedrals wants everyone to be able to use this website, whatever device they use and whatever their needs. This statement explains how accessible the site is, what we know still needs work, and how to tell us about a problem.
Using this website
You should be able to:
- zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
- pinch to zoom on a phone or tablet
- move around most of the site using just a keyboard
- use most of the site with a screen reader
- read text that stands out clearly from its background
We have also tried to keep the language on the site plain and clear.
If you have a disability, AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use.
How accessible this website is
We test the site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, which is the standard most UK organisations work to. The site is partially compliant with this standard. We know some parts are not fully accessible yet:
- The cathedral map. The interactive map is hard to use with a keyboard or screen reader. Every cathedral on the map is also listed by name on the List of Cathedrals page, which works fully with a keyboard and screen reader.
- Older images. Some images added in earlier years do not have a text description for screen readers.
- Documents. Some older PDF documents are not fully accessible. If you need a document in another format, please ask us.
- Videos. Some embedded videos come from other organisations and may not have captions.
- The Instagram feed. The feed on the homepage comes from Instagram, so its descriptions depend on what was written when each post was made.
Recent improvements
In October and November 2026 we:
- made it possible to pinch to zoom on phones
- darkened the gold used for links so it is easier to read
- made the footer email link and newsletter button easier to tap
- put the page headings in a logical order for screen readers
- mended links to cathedral websites that led nowhere
