All our cathedrals have exciting programmes for everyone throughout this summer – from headline exhibitions to family days and arts and crafts – and all are underpinned by the daily rhythm of prayer and worship.
Some of our cathedrals charge entry and there may be a fee at others for specific events, but all our cathedrals are free to enter for prayer, worship or to light a candle.
Do check on the cathedral’s individual website for up-to-date information before you travel.
And don’t forget to share your pictures and tag us #WishYouWereHere – our summer campaign this year.
The Beach returns to Lichfield Cathedral
Lichfield Cathedral brings back its ever-popular beach for the fourth year running, and it has just announced it will host the Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition.
Inspired by the photographic exhibition, Lichfield Cathedral will be building Noah’s Ark at the centre of The Beach creating a boat-shaped play area with slide for children to enjoy during the summer months.
Other summer family activities include craft, STEM and trails all with an animal theme.
The Beach will be free and entry to the Cathedral, including the international touring exhibition of over 100 photographs will be donation-based.
The Rt Revd Jan McFarlane, Dean of Lichfield said:
“We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors from all over the region and beyond to Lichfield Cathedral this summer.
‘The Beach is hugely popular, giving us all an opportunity to relax in deckchairs and build sandcastles before visiting the stunning wildlife photography in the Cathedral.
‘Our hope and prayer is that all who visit will find space to pause and rest, and to reflect on the joy and beauty of God’s creation.”
The Beach with Noah’s Ark and the Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year will open on 26 July and close on 31 August. Entry to Lichfield Cathedral is donation-based.
