Peterborough Cathedral launches Future Voices

07th April 2026

Peterborough Cathedral launches Future Voices, a transformative fundraising campaign to secure the next generation of choristers and sustain the city’s living musical heritage.

From Tradition to Tomorrow: Empowering Peterborough’s Young Voices

Peterborough Cathedral has launched Future Voices, a bold initiative designed to safeguard and amplify the voices of its young choristers, talented children who are both the custodians of centuries-old tradition and the trailblazers of the city’s contemporary cultural scene. These exceptional young performers are not only preserving a historic art form but reimagining it, bringing fresh energy, innovative perspectives, and new audiences to cathedral music.

Future Voices is committed to inclusivity and excellence: every chorister place is awarded solely on musical talent, entirely free from financial barriers. By ensuring access for all gifted children, regardless of background, the Cathedral nurtures diverse voices that reflect Peterborough itself, vibrant, multicultural, and creatively ambitious.
Chris Strange, Director of Music at Peterborough Cathedral said:

“The heart of Peterborough Cathedral is its exceptional choristers. At the centre of our 900-year-old musical tradition, they are extraordinarily talented yet entirely ordinary young people who dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to the music we offer. The experiences they gain here help shape their futures, and we are committed to ensuring this opportunity continues for generations to come.  We are hugely grateful for any support you can give to help preserve this tradition of excellence for the next 900 years.”

Whats On At Peterborough Cathedral

The campaign shines a spotlight on the stories behind the music, the dedication of the choristers, the pride of their families, and the shared joy of communities coming together around extraordinary talent. These narratives demonstrate how cathedral music fosters intergenerational connection, nurtures potential, and ignites cultural participation across the city.

Future Voices invites supporters to join Peterborough Cathedral in protecting and expanding this living tradition. Contributions will directly fund:

  • Chorister places, ensuring access for every talented child
  • World-class musical education and mentorship programs
  • Innovative outreach initiatives that bring cathedral music to new audiences

By donating, donors are investing in a choir that is outward-looking, inclusive, and poised to remain a vibrant cultural force in Peterborough for generations to come.
