Over thirty services and events focused on Holy Week and its climax of Easter Day on 31 March take place in Salisbury Cathedral this year.
Tom Clammer, Canon Precentor, said “We are pleased to be joined for Holy Week by Professor Sarah Coakley from the Faculty of Divinity at the University of Cambridge. Sarah is an Anglican theologian of distinction and has taught and published widely in a number of areas of Anglican thought. She also has wide parish experience and is an Honorary Canon of Ely Cathedral where she conducts worship regularly. Sarah will be preaching at our evening devotions from Monday to Wednesday, and also on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and at the Dawn Eucharist on Easter Day.”
“Holy Week itself will be a mix of quiet reflection and waiting, contrasted with dramatic liturgy, musical performances and children’s worship and we hope to welcome many hundreds of people to the Cathedral. Churches Together has arranged a Good Friday Walk of Witness which starts from the Cathedral’s West Front. Our celebration of the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ begins with the Dawn Eucharist at 5.30am on Easter Day with the Bishop of Salisbury, the Rt Revd Nicholas Holtam, presiding, baptizing and confirming. Bishop Nicholas will preach at Choral Eucharist with the Dean presiding, and the day concludes with a rousing Festal Evensong. Do join us for this most important week of the Christian Year.”
