Bradford Cathedral Consort will be singing an eclectic programme of music from across the centuries inspired by themes of war, conflict, peace and resolution, accompanied by David Wilson’s haunting saxophone improvisations. This recital, which will also include poetry inspired by the First World War, will have a commemorative, elegiac, overtone in the centenary year of that conflict.
Bradford Cathedral Consort, which will be directed by Cathedral Director of Music Alexander Woodrow, is a part of the Cathedral’s choral foundation. An adult choir, consisting of a soprano top line underpinned by the Cathedral Choir’s lay clerks, it has sung recently for services at Westminster Abbey and York Minster. Its 16 or so members sing a wide-ranging repertoire and the Choir is firmly establishing itself as one of the premier chamber choir ensembles in the region.
David Wilson is a professional composer and musician who has worked across the UK, Europe and the US over the past decade. David performed his original compositions ‘Air on Bronte Moor’ at the Cathedral – he’s a big fan of the acoustics in the building – in November 2013, inspired by the lives and works of the Brontes and the landscape of Haworth. David makes a welcome return to performing at the Cathedral and will be donating his fee for the evening to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
