VE Day – Truro Cathedral
25th April 2025
Lighting up red, white and blue, commemorative worship, music, bunting and bellringing – all our cathedrals are getting ready to remember, reflect and give thanks to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for peace in our times.
VE DAY 80 – join us in a shared moment of celebration and remembrance.
Truro Cathedral is at the centre of a series of events for the 80th Anniversary of VE Day.

It will start with a proclamation at the cathedral steps on Thursday 8 May and conclude with the lighting of the Beacon on High Cross in the evening with a spoken tribute and singing.
A special Choral Evensong in Commemoration of VE Day will be held in the cathedral, sung by Truro Cathedral Choir on the feast of St Michael Protector of Cornwall. Music will include Dyson in D, Psalm 46 and Lord, thou hast been our refuge – Vaughan Williams.
All are welcome to this special service. Please note this is an in-person only service and will not be live-streamed.
Thursday 8th May will mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe. To commemorate this occasion, the Government has announced an events programme between Bank Holiday Monday (5th May) and VE Day (8th May), culminating in a nationwide celebration of this historic day.
