Woven Lives – Bradford Cathedral

26th June 2025

Rochester has announced heritage lottery funding for its ambitious summer project which sees a plane suspended in the nave, Bradford is sharing visitors’ images and stories of faith and community through a unique glass installation, Chelmsford is at the heart of a creation-inspired summer city tour and Gloucester Cathedral has announced its tower re-opening for tours – just some of the events visitors can discover at our cathedrals this summer.

#WishYouWereHere – Summer in our Cathedrals – what will you discover?

All our cathedrals have exciting programmes for everyone throughout this summer – from headline exhibitions to family days and arts and crafts – and all are underpinned by the daily rhythm of prayer and worship.

Some of our cathedrals charge entry and there may be a fee at others for specific events, but all our cathedrals are free to enter for prayer, worship or to light a candle.

Do check on the cathedral’s individual website for up-to-date information before you travel.

And don’t forget to share your pictures and tag us #WishYouWereHere – our summer campaign this year.

Stories of faith and community light up new installation in Bradford Cathedral

Woven Lives, an installation of coloured glass that weaves together images and stories of the people of Bradford, will be displayed at Bradford Cathedral this summer as part of the ‘Weaving Stories’ season of events during the UK City of Culture year.

Displayed in the Cathedral from Tuesday 8th July to Monday 1st September 2025, Woven Lives is a powerful artwork which talks of the lives and stories of the people of Bradford and demonstrates how light and dark times are part of the story of community and connection.

The process of creating the installation began in Autumn 2024 with workshops held in the city.  Artists Shaeron Caton Rose and Linda Baines helped people to turn life events into personal symbols using stones and flowers, while videographer, Luke Hogan recorded the stories they were happy to share to form an integral part of the installation.

The Revd Canon Ned Lunn, Canon for Intercultural Mission and the Arts at Bradford Cathedral said,

“We are thrilled to welcome the Woven Lives installation to Bradford Cathedral as part of our Weaving Stories season in the City of Culture celebrations.

‘This stunning piece will accompany and complement our major Weaving Stories arts heritage project which explores how wool crafts have shaped Bradford’s identity — both historically and today.

Artist, Linda Baines said,

“We have all been moved to hear each other’s stories and to celebrate how the light of faith, community and connection can change even the darkest of times. People have been surprised by how good it has felt to see their life as a whole, and to share it with others.”

Woven Lives will be exhibited in the Holy Spirit Chapel of Bradford Cathedral from Tuesday 8th July to Monday 1st September 2025.
