Salisbury Cathedral has announced a summer of organ music – including the highly anticipated return of the Organ Prom.
Opening this year’s organ series on Saturday 4 July, is Max Carsley, former organ scholar at the Cathedral and currently Assistant Organist at St Mary’s Cathedral Edinburgh. Max will play a varied programme, including Karg-Elert’s “The Sun’s Evensong, 7 Pastels from the Lake of Constance” – The “Pastels” are vivid musical representations inspired by impressionistic scenes of the Lake of Constance. He will also play works by Whitlock, Hollins and Alain.
On Saturday 8 August the popular Organ Prom returns, with music inspired by the Cathedral’s year-long theme of Joyful Noise. The evening will take on a relaxed and informal setting, with the audience encouraged to wander around the Cathedral, enjoy a drink and listen to a mix of music, from organ classics to film music and popular songs.
Like previous years, the audience will be able to choose what they would like to hear the organists perform via public vote in the runup to the event. More details will be on the Salisbury Cathedral social media closer to the date. The evening is supported by Batt Broadbent Solicitors.
For those who prefer less contemporary music, Dutch organist Maurits Bunt will perform works from the Renaissance to the Romantic period on Saturday 19 September, performing on the romantic 1877 Father Willis Organ as well as the 2025 Klop Chamber Organ, to better reflect the organs heard during the Renaissance period. Bunt will perform works from Bach, Mendelssohn, Sweelinck, Ireland and Wagner.
Closing the 2026 Organ Series is the internationally renowned conductor and organist David Hill. Known to local audiences from his time as Master of Music at Winchester Cathedral, Hill has gone on to achieve international renown as Conductor of the BBC Singers, The Bach Choir, Associate Guest Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and as Principal Conductor of Yale Schola Cantorum.
