Carlisle Cathedral is hosting the Carlisle and Cumbria Artists 57th annual exhibition in the Fratry Hall this summer with over 280 original paintings by 49 local artists on display.

The exhibition includes local landscapes, still life and abstract work in a wide variety of techniques and styles.
Carlisle and Cumbria Artists’ first exhibition took place at the old Town Hall in 1968.
It was organised by the late Mrs Molly Mawson to raise money to save the 15th century Tithe Barn. The first exhibition was so successful that the then Dean asked Mrs Mawson if future exhibitions could raise money for Carlisle Cathedral.
Since then, it has been an annual event in the city’s social calendar, raising valuable funds for the Cathedral.
Carlisle and Cumbria Artists’ Chair, Terry Moore, added
“Artists explore much of Cumbria and the Lake District in their artwork, which appeals to visitors who only visit the city.
‘This art venue is well supported by the artists who see it as one of the major exhibitions in the calendar year, with excellent gallery space. Donations to the Cathedral are central to the artists’ appreciation of these amazing set of buildings.”
Event details: The exhibition runs from Saturday 18 July to Sunday 2 August, open from 10am to 4pm daily. Admission is free, with donations welcomed. The entrance to the Fratry Hall is accessed via the Cathedral Cafe. All proceeds will be donated to Carlisle Cathedral.
