Thousands of paper poppies will fall from the central tower of Truro Cathedral during the service of Remembrance on Armistice Sunday as a moving act of commemoration to remember all lives lost in war this Centenary year.

The paper poppies have been made by members of the local community – young and old – over the last few months and the poppy drop is part of Truro’s services and events to mark the Centenary of the end of the First World War.

Events start this Saturday with a single day course on Theology and WW1 by Truro’s Canon Theologian, Revd Professor Mark Chapman whose recently published academic text ‘Theology at War and Peace: English theology and Germany in the First World War’ has been described as ‘the first detailed discussion of the impact of the First World War on English theology’.
That evening Truro Choral Society will perform Karl Jenkin’s moving work The Armed Man and there will be dedications in the Field of Remembrance on Sunday 4 November.
A three Spires concert on Saturday 10 November will commemorate the centenary of WW1 with music, before the reflective Service of Remembrance on Sunday 11 November at 10.30 with the poppy drop and two minute silence.
