To commemorate the Armistice, Worcester Cathedral is offering not one but four opportunities to remember the casualties of war, especially poignant on the one hundredth anniversary of the end of the First World War.

This year’s remembrance will begin with a lone piper playing at the City War Memorial at 6 am, part of the ‘Battle’s Over’ national tribute.
The Civic Remembrance service at 10 am will be attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire, as well as the Mayor and representatives of the Armed Forces, the city and the county. A new anthem, Solomon in all his glory, specially composed for this service by Neil Cox, will by premiered by the Cathedral Choir. The service will be followed by an act of remembrance at the County War Memorial, including a 2-minute silence marked by gunfire and the Cathedral bell at 11 am, before a Civic procession to the Guildhall, where the Lord Lieutenant and Mayor will take the salute.
The 4 pm service of evensong at the Cathedral on Remembrance Sunday, sung by the Cathedral Voluntary Choir, will feature prayers for peace and reconciliation. All are warmly invited to attend.
Those who died in the First World War will be also remembered at a special service at the Cathedral in the evening, featuring rarely-heard music composed for the war dead in 1915 by Henry Walford Davies. Names of those to be remembered will be read aloud at this Requiem Eucharist, to be held at 6.30 pm.
