Meet conservators from Bainbridge Conservation for a behind-the-scenes look at the organ case conservation.
An exclusive opportunity to meet the skilled conservators from Bainbridge Conservation, who have been meticulously restoring the intricate joinery and carvings of our historic organ case.
While the organ itself undergoes restoration by Harrison & Harrison, Bainbridge’s team has been hard at work on the elaborately carved 1680s oak case that encases the pipes and mechanisms. This detailed conservation process has involved cleaning the surfaces to reveal their stunning oak finish, stabilising the intricate carvings, and replacing any lost details with newly crafted oak pieces. So far, over 600 hours have been dedicated to this remarkable project.
Come witness conservation in action, learn about the techniques used in preserving this magnificent woodwork, and see the progress made firsthand.
This is a drop in event with no booking or charge required.
