Coventry Cathedral is throwing open its doors this weekend for an extraordinary 24 hours of continuous music, community and creativity from 4pm on Friday 25th September until 4pm on Saturday 26th September.
Coventry Cathedral to Host 24-Hour Music Marathon in Aid of Choir’s Malta Tour
Performers from across the city and beyond will come together for the 24-Hour Music Marathon, which is raising funds to support Coventry Cathedral Choir’s tour to Malta.
Money raised will help provide life-changing musical opportunities for Coventry Cathedral’s young singers and support its ongoing musical mission.
The marathon kicks off on Friday evening from 4pm to 9pm with an in-person programme featuring:
- Coventry & Warwickshire Gospel
- We Blow Saxes
- Music from Coventry’s Ukrainian Community
- Battle of the Organists
- … and more
Wine and soft drinks will be available, and the Cathedral is open to the public until 9pm. Visitors are welcome to drop in after work and enjoy one or two performances before the marathon continues overnight.
For those unable to attend in person — or wishing to tune in while the Cathedral is closed to visitors between 9pm Friday and 8.30am Saturday — the full event will be available via livestream. From 11pm (UK time), Sung Compline will be followed by back-to-back organ music from the Cathedral’s music team through the night until 8.30am.
The Cathedral reopens bright and early on Saturday from 8.30am to 4pm with a packed day of music, including:
- Choral and orchestral music throughout the day
- Baby and Toddler Rhyme Time
- Accordion music from Cathedral Verger Thomas Darker
- A closing concert from the Cathedral Choir & Coventry Cathedral Chorus
Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
Cathedral Verger Accordion Concert — Saturday 26 September, 9am. Thomas Darker performs a selection of favourite accordion pieces. No tickets required.
Baby and Toddler Rhyme Time — Saturday 26 September, 9.30–10am. Led by April Griffiths, Music Support Administrator, this session of nursery rhymes and songs is designed for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.
Entry to all in-person events is free, with donations welcomed to support Coventry Cathedral’s music programme and the Choir’s tour to Malta.
