Made in 2022

20th December 2022

Peterborough Cathedral is once again calling for entries for an open exhibition of artworks reflecting on the times in which we are living.

Made In Lockdown is back – reinvented as Made in 2022!

Following the success of the ‘Made in Lockdown’ exhibition which saw over 170 artists respond with around 300 pieces of work inspired by NHS workers, the natural world and the isolation that the national lockdowns caused through 2020 -2021, artists are being asked to include artworks that in some way reflect the events and challenges of 2022 for this year’s Made in 2022 exhibition.

Made in Lockdown Art Club – Peterborough Cathedral

The Dean of Peterborough, the Very Revd Christopher Dalliston said:

“It seemed impossible to follow last year’s Made in Lockdown exhibition, which was a unique and moving reflection on the pandemic and its impact on our lives.

“Yet there is no doubt that 2022 has been an equally momentous and challenging year, with the invasion of Ukraine, searing summer temperatures in the UK and floods in Pakistan, and the death of our much-loved sovereign amongst the many stories hitting headlines.

“Some people will have experienced their own triumphs and trials too and found hope and resilience in unexpected places.

“This call for entries is an opportunity for anyone who makes art to show their work to a wider audience and to help us all to see with fresh eyes the times in which we live.

“I am very much looking forward to seeing the exhibition,” he added.

Artists will need to read the exhibition’s full Criteria, Terms and Conditions of entry before putting their work forward but the kind of work the exhibition might include range from drawings, paintings, prints and collages, through to textiles or ceramics, provided that they fit the size required and are ready to hang.

Three-dimensional works up to a specified size may also be entered.

It is free to enter and entry forms will be available via the website soon. The deadline for receiving entries is Monday 16th January 2023.

Exhibiting artists will then be contacted and asked to deliver their work to the Cathedral on either during opening hours on Wednesday 1st February (1pm to 4pm), or on the morning of Saturday 4th February (10am to 1pm).

The exhibition is being sponsored by Estate and Lettings Agent, Savills and will go on show in the cathedral   from 8th February to 2nd March 2023.

David Goodson, Savills Director and Head of Office in Peterborough, said:

“With roots in Peterborough that stretch back to the 1950s, we are always keen to support local initiatives and this year’s ‘Made in’ exhibition is one that we are proudly supporting.

“Over the course of the year there have been many challenges and this exhibition will play a wonderfully cathartic role in enabling people to express what 2022 has meant to them through arts and crafts.
