Museum of the Moon – Cathedral Isle of Man

17th January 2025

It’s a first for the refurbished Cathedral Isle of Man when they welcome Luke Jerram’s art installation, Museum of the Moon next month.

Museum of the Moon, Cathedral Isle of Man – 9th February to 2nd March 2025

The giant illuminated sculpture of the moon will is go on display in the nave of the  cathedral which opened just in time for Christmas after almost a year of re-ordering and renewal that saw the cathedral community worshipping in churches and the Cathedral Hall, and the choir take Choral Evensong on safari around the diocese.

It is the first event to be held in the newly re-ordered Cathedral Isle of Man which is undergoing an ambitious project of renewal to create a vibrant centre for all.

The Dean, the Very Revd Nigel Godfrey, said:

“The Cathedral at its heart is a place of worship, but this project will enable us to also be a hub for the arts, community, education, hospitality and events.”

Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon will go on display from 9 February until 2 March and will be accompanied by  “lunar-inspired events for all” that will take place under the artwork, from Pilates to choral performances.

With a diameter of 6m, the display uses detailed NASA imagery to replicate the lunar surface and is accompanied by a sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award-winning composer Dan Jones. The installation has been supported by the Isle of Man Arts Council.

Lay preacher at Cathedral Isle of Man, Rosemary Clarke said it would be an “unforgettable experience”

Museum of the Moon – 9 February to 2 March. This is a free exhibition and the cathedral will be open from 9am -6pm
