Special offer for AEC members and subscribers – see below.

Inspired by the Association of English Cathedrals’ Divine Light social media campaign, the calendar features windows from 12 cathedrals and St George’s Chapel, Windsor, including five top windows in the public vote.

A new 2027 calendar celebrating the extraordinary stained glass of England’s cathedrals will be published this month (October) inspired by the Association of English Cathedrals’ Divine Light campaign which showcased a significant national art collection that spans 900 years of mastery and wonder.

Divine Light: The Stained Glass of England’s Cathedrals 2027 Calendar features windows from 12 English cathedrals and St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.

The winning window in the public vote, the East Window at Carlisle Cathedral, appears on the cover, and 12 further windows illustrate the months of the year.

The calendar includes five windows from the public’s  favourite top twelve. They range from the 12th century to 2019.

Divine Light was a collaboration between the Association of English Cathedrals and author Janet Gough OBE, based on her latest book of the same name.

The Association of English Cathedrals’ social media campaign ran last winter and shared a stained-glass window from each of England’s 43 Anglican cathedrals and the two Royal Peculiars of Westminster Abbey and St George’s Chapel, Windsor, on social media.

The campaign attracted more than 2.1 million people across the Association’s platforms and showcased the depth and range of stained glass artistry and craftsmanship in England’s cathedrals, from the 12th century to modern times.

Anna Pitt, executive director of the Association of English Cathedrals, said:

“We’re delighted that Janet and her publisher have created this Divine Light Calendar.

‘Our stained-glass campaign reached over 2.1 million people and showed just how much these extraordinary spaces matter to communities across England.

‘The calendar captures both the phenomenal craft and artistry of our windows – spanning 900 years – and the sense of belonging and inspiration that cathedrals inspire.’

The Venerable Michael Everitt, Interim Dean of Carlisle, said:

‘I am delighted that our wonderful East Window was voted England’s favourite and made it onto the front cover of this beautiful new calendar! I hope that many people will come to Carlisle Cathedral to see it in person.

‘For many of us this window has played a central part in our lives: whether through concerts, services or visits. The combination of the ancient glass at the top and the wonderful Victorian depictions of Jesus’ life, all set beneath our starry ceiling, means you truly get a glimpse of heaven inside the Cathedral.’
