New Dean of York – the Right Reverend Jonathan Frost

06th February 2019

The new Dean of York, the Right Reverend Jonathan Frost, said he felt ‘enormously humbled and privileged’ to be asked to serve at the Minster in ‘God’s own city’.

Dr Jonathan Frost was installed as the 76th Dean of York at a service of Choral Evensong at the cathedral on Saturday and succeeds the Very Reverend Dr Vivienne Faull, the Minster’s first female Dean, who was consecrated as Bishop of Bristol last year.

Dr Frost, was previously Bishop Suffragan of Southampton, where he served as chairman of the joint board of education.

“I feel an enormous sense of excitement and looking forward. I am coming in to a great team that’s looking ahead.

“There’s so much that’s going on in the Minster that’s good and encouraging, but perhaps more than that, I am looking forward to taking the Minster out and to seeing how the Minster team, and the congregation, the volunteers, the community, can better serve the city that we are all part of.

And it’s vital for me to take the time to listen and learn,” he added.

He said he felt a huge thrill and excitement about moving to God’s own country and was looking forward to exploring.

“York is a great place and one I am really looking forward to exploring.

He said: “At the heart of what the church is about is building good community for everyone, not just for a few but for everyone.

“We want a city that works well for everyone and in which everyone can flourish, “ he added.
