Christian Aid and Southwark Cathedral have teamed up to be a beacon of hope with a unique art installation designed to inspire and bring joy during these challenging times.
Christian Aid’s Beacon of Hope opens at Southwark Cathedral
From the 16th – 29th January Christian Aid’s stained-glass style ‘Beacon of Hope’ will create a spectacle of light and colour with messages of hope to lift everyone’s spirits.
Each message of hope has been brought to life by Ugandan artist, Matt Kayem. Working in his signature style, Matt has used recycled denim sourced from the markets of Kampala. He has stretched the fabric onto frames to become a unique canvas for these vivid, colourful creations.
A spokesperson for Christian Aid said:
““Blue Monday” 2023 might well become the bluest yet, with people struggling more than ever to feel a sense of hopefulness about the big injustices in the world. We hope this spectacle of colour and light will help lift everyone’s spirits.”
You can visit the Beacon of Hope at Southwark Cathedral, London Bridge, London, SE1 9DA from the 16th – 29th January 2023, from 8am – 6pm.
Special Candlelight Evenings of Prayer will take place on Wednesday 18th & Wednesday 25th January 2023 when the Cathedral will remain open until 8.00pm.
