Lichfield Cathedral marked the return to choir school with a special installation service at which ten choristers were formally welcomed into the Cathedral Choir.
Lichfield Cathedral is also recruiting choristers and welcomes enquiries from families with children currently in Years 3, 4 and 5. A small number of places remain available in this year’s choir, with further opportunities opening from September 2027.

“Singing in the Cathedral Choir quickly becomes part of the fabric of life, and we are delighted to welcome our newest choristers and scholars into the choir community. Watching young people develop not only as musicians but also as individuals is one of the great privileges of this role.”

Through Lichfield Cathedral School’s Choral Scholarship programme, families may also benefit from reduced school fees, helping to make the musical and educational opportunity accessible to more young people.
The next Be a Chorister for a Day event will take place on Saturday 16 January 2027, giving children and their families the opportunity to experience chorister life, meet current choir members and learn more about cathedral music.
The Cathedral also invites the public to hear the choir at Choral Evensong. Sung regularly throughout the week, the service offers a moment of peace, prayer and outstanding music in the surroundings of Lichfield Cathedral.
