At Salisbury Cathedral, Be a Chorister for a Day on Saturday 3 October will give boys and girls in Years 2 to 4 the chance to sing alongside current Cathedral choristers.
This informal event will help children and their families discover what it is like to join a historic musical tradition.
Be a Chorister for a Day – Salisbury Cathedral – Saturday 3rd October
David Halls, Director of Music at Salisbury Cathedral, said:
“This event is a great way to inspire the next generation of choristers. Joining a cathedral choir opens a lot of opportunities for young people. This day is to help children and families discover the benefits of being a chorister and see if it is something they would like to pursue. All you need is a sense of curiosity and a love of singing.”
The free event will include a singing workshop, during which children will rehearse and record a festive “singing Christmas card” with current choristers in the Cathedral. The recording will be shared with parents later in the year.
Following the workshop, children will enjoy playtime in the Salisbury Cathedral School playground, while parents and guardians can learn about scholarship options, as well as what it means to have a chorister in the family. The Cathedral School will be running an open day earlier in the morning on the same day.
The day will conclude with participants joining the Cathedral choristers for a special Evensong service.
Families will also be able to prepare for January’s Voice Trial Day through a Voice Trial Workshop on Saturday 12 December 2026, offering guidance on the process and what to expect. Informal pre-auditions are also available to help children build confidence ahead of the trial.
